On June 7, 2021, Washington State's liquor and cannabis board launched the 'Joints for Jabs' initiative, allowing adults aged 21 and above to claim free marijuana after receiving a Covid-19 vaccination shot.
With 58% of the state's population having received at least one dose and 49% fully vaccinated, this incentive aims to further increase vaccination rates.
Washington State is not alone in offering unique incentives; other states have provided free beer, wine, and liquor, while some have even awarded cash lotteries worth over $1 million to motivate citizens to get vaccinated.
Kenya, however, has a long way to go, with less than 2% of its population vaccinated.
Should the Kenyan government consider emulating this innovative approach to boost vaccination rates?
