On June 15, 2021, the process of obtaining a gun license in Kenya became even more stringent under the leadership of Dr. Fred Matiang'i as the Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary.

Robert Nyamongo, a member of the National Gun Owners Association (Ngao-Kenya) and Kenya's top shooter, shared the updated requirements with Business Daily in an interview.

According to Nyamongo, applicants must provide a certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, a certificate from Mathari Mental Hospital or a recognized psychiatrist, and a letter from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), among other documents.

He emphasized the importance of financial stability, stating, 'I guess because you need a firearm to protect something.' Nyamongo himself owns a gun due to his profession as a contractor, which involves handling large sums of money.

Interestingly, Nyamongo also claimed that women make better shooters and snipers than men, attributing this to their 'very good dexterity with their fingers.' He explained that gun shooting is about accuracy and requires a soft touch on the trigger, which women are said to possess.
