Raila Praises Uhuru's Development Agenda ¶
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has commended President Uhuru Kenyatta's efforts in addressing Kenya's development needs, particularly in affordable housing and urban planning.
Speaking at the funeral of the late David Kamau Waweru, Raila pointed out that the affordable housing scheme was a significant step towards addressing the country's urbanization challenges.
"He is simply responding to the needs of our people. He wants to satisfy the need for housing in our urban areas," Raila said.
According to Raila, the country has had no proper urban planning since independence, leading to the emergence of slums.
"When I was the Minister of Roads, Housing and Public Works, we came up with a new housing policy. Our housing policy had not been revised for a very long time," Raila disclosed.
Despite his praise for Uhuru's development agenda, Raila maintained that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) remains Kenya's best bet for addressing the country's development challenges.
"Covid-19 pandemic and the petition in court took us to half time, but be sure reggae will be back, because nobody can stop reggae," Raila said, in a veiled reference to the BBI process.
