On Sunday, June 13, 2021, hundreds of residents from Bomet County gathered at The Lost Glory Restoration Center (LOGORC) in Kipsoen, Longisa, in anticipation of a miracle.
Bishop Fredrick Rotich had proclaimed a week earlier that God had promised to take him to heaven alive on that day, citing the biblical example of Elijah.
However, as the clock ticked by, Rotich failed to appear, and the crowd began to disperse, growing impatient and skeptical.
Some church members, who spoke to the press outside the church, claimed that Rotich had made similar claims in his sermons, stating that he would be lifted to heaven at a location in the area.
"He told us that God has recognized what he has done to the people on earth and he has finished his job so he was going to be taken and that his soul would go to heaven but we are going to bury the body here," said Snider Korir, a church member.
Efforts by the area chief and security officers to search for Rotich were unsuccessful, and attempts to reach him for comment were also futile.
