On June 12, 2021, a major breakthrough was made in the investigation of a series of robberies that had been terrorizing motorists on the Southern by-pass in Kibra.

Following a detailed analysis and investigation, detectives employed cyber and forensic analysis techniques to identify the beneficiaries of the crimes.

At the center of the investigation was Boniface Winjira Unganyi, the proprietor of Basement Crew mobile shop in Lindi, Kibra.

It was discovered that mobile phones stolen from victims along the busy highway were being sold cheaply to locals at the suspect's shop.

A total of 102 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen were recovered from the suspect's shop during the raid.

Two other individuals, Alex Mboya, 35, and a 16-year-old minor studying at a secondary school in Langata, were also arrested during the operation.
