On June 11, 2021, the Kenya Navy Training College (KNTC) at the Mtongwe naval base in Mombasa marked a significant milestone with the launch of a new firefighting facility worth 41 million shillings.
The facility was officially handed over by the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and Danish Ambassador Ole Thonke, in the company of Defence Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma.
According to Defence Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma, the multipurpose training facility will further strengthen UK's defence relationship with Kenya.
Dr. Juma also noted that the facility will offer training to officers in the Kenya Navy and other maritime stakeholders on a range of competencies to ensure the safety of crew and vessels both onshore and ashore.
Ambassador Thonke emphasized the importance of the facility, stating that the ability to train navy soldiers and seamen in fighting fires and handling situations in smoke-filled rooms on ships is of crucial importance, and will save lives.
