Published on June 11, 2021, a complaint was filed at the Nyali police station in Mombasa County by Diana Opemi Lutta, claiming to have been assaulted by Dr Mukhisa Kituyi, a former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General, while at the Tamarind Village hotel in Mombasa.
Ms Lutta alleged that Dr Kituyi, a former Trade minister in the first government of retired President Mwai Kibaki, attacked her while demanding to sleep with him forcefully in the hotel. She claimed that the politician forced her to the bed and continued kicking her before falling to the floor, injuring her left knee in the process.
According to the police report, Ms Lutta was advised to seek medical attention for further police action after she was issued with a P3 form, which was later filled at the Coast General Hospital.
However, Dr Kituyi disputed the allegations, stating that Ms Lutta gave in willingly. The Nyali OCS, Albert Chebii, confirmed that investigations were ongoing, saying, 'We are still investigating the matter.'
