On June 29, 2019, Strabag International, a German company, finally spoke out on allegations of racial abuse against one of its employees, Austrian national Jurgen Hinteregger.
Hinteregger was grilled by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over accusations of mistreating and physically abusing his employers.
Employees had raised concerns that Hinteregger was planning to flee the country.
Strabag's communication boss, Diana Neumueller, confirmed that the firm has started internal investigations on the accusations.
Hinteregger has denied committing the alleged abuses, stating that he never became violent or made racist statements.
Neumueller emphasized that the company is trying to obtain further information, including sound recordings and witness statements, before making conclusions on the matter.
She stated, “We don’t want to judge anyone until we have a clear picture based on evidence.”
Neumueller also highlighted that all employees are obliged to comply with the company’s Code of Conduct, which fosters respect and equal opportunity regardless of race or nationality.
