On Thursday, a grim discovery was made at a rental house in Bungoma county, near the Cheptais Police Station. The officer commanding the station, Crispus Sidano Mwandime, was found dead at his home.
According to reports, neighbours had noticed a foul smell emanating from the house, which was locked from the inside. They alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and broke into the house with assistance from the public.
A police report revealed that the deceased was found lying on the floor beside his bed, with a trail of vomit and blood stains leading from the toilet to his bed. He had a visible injury on his forehead, and the bedroom was littered with bottles of third generation liquor.
Notably, Mwandime was on annual leave but had returned to the office to process vouchers for the last quarter of the financial year.
The body was taken to Lifecare hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
