Published on May 24, 2021, the third edition of the Sokoke MTV cycling challenge is set to take place in Watamu, Kilifi County this weekend.
The event, organized by A Rocha Kenya and supported by Turtlebay and Oceansports resorts, aims to aid the conservation of Arabuko-Sokoke forest, the largest remaining dry coastal forest in Eastern and Southern Africa.
According to Noni Mbuggus, the event coordinator, the cyclists will ride from Watamu and head towards Sabaki river with a loop in Malindi for a stop before heading towards the coastline on return to the finish podium at Turtlebay Resort.
‘The winner of the past editions, Kenyan cycling ace David Kinjah is expected to lead the pack in the competitive race next Monday,’ said Noni.
The event will also raise funds for A Rocha Kenya’s Eco-Scholarship Scheme, which ensures 100 high school students living around the forest don’t miss out on education and become champions of environmental protection.
