On October 1, 2020, police in Busia County made a significant arrest, detaining seven foreigners of Somali origin who were believed to have entered the country illegally.

According to Busia Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto, the suspects were intercepted at a roadblock along the Busia-Kisumu road in a private vehicle with the registration number KCL 458 X Nissan, which was headed for Nairobi.

‘Today, at around 6.00 am, our officers manning the roadblock arrested people who were travelling in a vehicle destined for Nairobi,’ Ruto stated.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects were believed to have been traveling from Uganda, and the officers suspected that they had ill motives.

‘We thank the police officers for the good work and urge them to continue protecting the lives and property,’ Ruto said, adding that the motive behind their actions had not been established.

The office of the DCI has since launched investigations to determine the suspects' place of origin and destination.
