Published on May 19, 2021, the White House COVID-19 Response Team announced a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases and deaths across all 50 states.
Andy Slavitt, acting administrator of the team, stated, 'For the first time since the pandemic began, COVID-19 cases are down in all 50 states. We are winning the war on the virus.' He emphasized the need for continued efforts to 'finish the job.'
Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported 17,724 new cases on Monday, the lowest daily caseload since June 2020.
The seven-day average for COVID-19-related hospital admissions decreased by almost 18 percent from the prior seven-day period, with 3,500 hospital admissions reported.
Walensky also noted a decline in the seven-day average for daily deaths, reaching 546, a new low since March 2020.
She attributed the progress to increased vaccination efforts, with between 1.5 million and 2 million people being vaccinated daily.
As of the latest data, 274 million coronavirus vaccines have been administered to Americans, with approximately 124 million, or 37.7 percent of the population, being 'fully vaccinated' with two doses each.
