On May 12, 2021, Peter Njenga, alias ole Sankale, appeared virtually before the Kiambu High Court, where a judge ruled that he is mentally fit to stand trial for the murder of former National Lands Commission official Jennifer Wambua.
Wambua was found dead on April 15, 2021, and Njenga was arrested the same day. He has been in custody since then.
According to court documents, Njenga will face charges related to Wambua's murder, as well as multiple counts of rape and violent robbery. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) must approve the charges before Njenga can be formally charged.
Two other suspects in the case, Mr. Benjamin Saitoti and Mr. David Sempuan, have been released and placed in witness protection. They will serve as state witnesses against Njenga.
The court was also informed that Njenga has four pending cases of robbery with violence and theft. The DCI wants him to take a plea for fresh charges, as more victims have come forward to accuse him of rape and theft.
On May 10, 2021, an identification parade was held in Ngong, where Njenga was positively identified by witnesses. This led the DCI to request that the DPP approve the new charges.
