On May 11, 2021, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were released, showcasing the hard work and determination of students across the country.

Among the top performers was Allan Wasonga from Agoro Sare High School, who secured an impressive A of 87.173 points, emerging as the second-best student in the country.

Wasonga's journey to academic success was not without its challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed for seven months, leaving students to navigate online classes and find ways to stay focused.

Speaking about his experience, Wasonga revealed that he had to get creative with his study habits. Due to the pressure from his teachers and the need to concentrate, he would often study in the toilet at night to avoid disturbing his family members.

"My mother wanted to sleep, she was complaining about the lights. Because my concentration was high at night, I would go to the toilet, put lights on and study from there sometimes," Wasonga recalled.

He attributed his determination to perform well to the pressure from his teachers, which motivated him to go the extra mile in his studies.

"The pressure to perform was high. If no one told me that they wanted me to lead in the whole country, I wouldn’t be locking myself in the toilet. I would have just aimed at an A to enable me to pursue a career in medicine," he said.
