On May 10, 2021, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka declared the seat previously occupied by Senator Isaac Mwaura vacant, following a gazette notice.

According to the notice, the seat became vacant with effect from May 7, 2021, as per Article 103 (1) (e) (i) of the Constitution and section 37 of the Elections Act.

Senator Mwaura's expulsion was part of a larger purge by Jubilee Party, which also saw the expulsion of seven other nominated senators in February 2021.

On February 8, 2021, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced that the National Management Committee (NMC) had met and deliberated on a report filed by the party's disciplinary committee.

The report led to the expulsion of the nominated senators, including Isaac Mwaura, Seneta Mary Yiane, Waqo Naomi Jilo, Omanga Millicent, Prengei Victor, Iman Dekow, and Gona Christine Zawadi.
