On May 11, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged China's success in controlling COVID-19, with a low incidence rate and exceptional vigilance in monitoring for clusters.
Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, noted that countries with low incidence rates, like China, remain constantly on the lookout for occasional clusters and react quickly to maintain control.
According to Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 technical lead for the WHO, China's comprehensive approach has demonstrated that it is possible to keep the epidemic under control, even without a vaccine.
This approach includes measures such as detecting cases, providing care for patients in isolation facilities, isolating those with mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic, and establishing contact tracing systems.
WHO experts emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant, as the virus continues to circulate in many parts of the world.
