On 23rd March 2014, a terror attack on a church in Likoni left Gift Osinya, then a young boy, traumatised and with a bullet lodged in his head. His mother and other worshipers lost their lives in the attack.
Seven years ago, Gift and his brother Satrine were adopted by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and his family. Since then, they have experienced God's miracles in their lives.
Gift's academic journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He scored an impressive 399 marks in KCPE four years ago and went on to attend Lenana School in Nairobi for his secondary education.
On social media, Sonko expressed his gratitude to everyone who has supported them in this journey, stating that celebrating his son's achievement is not a PR strategy. He shared a heartfelt message, saying, 'THE LORD HAS DONE IT AGAIN! WACHENI MUNGU AITWE MUNGU.'
Sonko went on to share the story of Gift's past, saying, 'When terrorists struck a church in Likoni on the Sunday of 23rd March, 2014, taking the life of his mum and other worshipers, Master Gift Osinya was left traumatised, terrified and hopeless with a bullet lodged in the head of his younger brother, Master Satrine Osinya.'
Despite the challenges he faced, Gift has proven to be a resilient and determined individual. His B- grade in KCSE is a testament to his hard work and dedication.
On behalf of his family, Sonko thanked everyone for their continued support and prayers, inviting them to join in celebrating Gift's achievements and thanking God for his mercies upon his life.
