On May 11, 2021, China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that the country's population on the mainland had reached 1.41178 billion, citing data from the seventh national population census.
The figure does not include residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, nor foreigners living in the mainland's 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, as per the NBS.
