On May 10, 2021, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) released the KCSE 2020 results, but the examination body has since denied ranking schools countrywide.

According to KNEC, a list circulating on social media claiming to be the official ranking of top schools is fake and should be ignored.

“KNEC wishes to advise the public to ignore lists circulating in social media purported to be a genuine ranking of the KCSE 2020 Examination results. The Council has not ranked schools in the results released today. All lists are therefore Fake,” KNEC said.

The examination body stopped ranking schools years ago to curb cheating and unnecessary competition among schools.

Despite the fake ranking, the KCSE 2020 results showed that over 700,000 students sat for the exam, with 143,140 students scoring a mean grade of C+ and above.

Robinson Wanjala from Murang’a Boys High School was the top student countrywide, while Allan Wasonga of Agoro Sare became second.
