TSC to Implement Biometric System to Prevent Exam Cheating ¶
On May 10, 2021, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced plans to introduce a biometric system to prevent cheating during national exams.
According to TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, the system will involve taking the fingerprints of all teachers in public schools to uniquely identify individuals involved in tampering with examination papers.
The move aims to shield teachers who are wrongly accused of tampering with exams and aiding exam cheating, as well as to accurately detect perpetrators.
Speaking during the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results, Macharia stated that the plan is currently in its final stages.
"We have resolved to a biometric system to help in accurately detecting perpetrators who tamper with examination papers. This will be done by taking the fingerprints of all the teachers in public schools. The use of this biometrics will help in saving the innocent teachers who are attacked wrongly," said Macharia.
