On May 10, 2021, the Kenya Ministry of Education released the results of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, revealing a notable improvement in the performance of special needs students.
According to the results, 223 candidates with special needs achieved a minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, representing an 11.9 per cent increase from the 127 candidates who achieved the same grade in 2019.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha highlighted the remarkable improvement, stating that the 223 candidates who attained the C+ grade were a significant increase from the 127 candidates in 2019, representing a 7.7 per cent of the total candidature.
Prof Magoha also recognized ten students who had made significant progress despite struggling in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams. These students included Hassan Abdullahi, Cheruiyot Bett, Maluti Tom, Sadera Sempeyo, Kamar Abdullahi, Ruweitha Abdikadir, Siololo Parmaari, Kipees Siomit, Muharaf Kerow, and Abdullahi Daud.
The Ministry of Education also identified schools that had shown significant improvement in their mean scores, with a list dominated by ex-county schools and sub-county schools. The schools included Kaaga Girls' High, St Joseph's Girls' - Kitale, Kisasi Secondary Sch., Oriwo Boys High Sch., Riokindo High Sch., St Joseph's Rapogi, Light Academy, Moi Gesusu High, Saye Mixed Sec., St.Edward Nyabioto, Wiobiero Secondary, Chuka Boys High, Strathmore School, Bushra High, and Mahiga Girls Sec.
