On May 10, 2021, we revisited the history of Charterhouse Bank, a financial institution that has been at the center of controversy in Kenya.
As far back as 2006, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) took drastic measures by placing Charterhouse Bank under statutory management. This move was prompted by concerns over the bank's operations, which had raised eyebrows among regulators.
At the time, Charterhouse Bank had a significant presence in the country, with 10 branches spread across Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa.
