Published on May 10, 2021, the Harambee Starlets have been drawn against South Sudan in the first round of the 2022 African Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers.
The Starlets will kick off their campaign against Africa's newest women's football team, South Sudan, before playing the second leg away in Juba.
Former Harambee Starlets coach Florence 'Dua' Adhiambo is now the assistant coach of the South Sudanese team, making this an interesting tie for the Starlets.
However, with an experienced squad and new tactician Charles Okere at the helm, Kenya's chances of advancing to the second round are high.
The winner of the tie will progress to the second round, where they will face the winner between Ethiopia and Uganda, with the victor earning a ticket to the main tournament.
The 2022 AWCON will be expanded to a 12-team tournament for the first time, with 11 winners from the second round joining hosts Morocco.
The tournament will also serve as a qualification tournament for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, with the semi-finalists from Morocco earning a place in the tournament co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
