On Monday, Prof. Magoha released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results, highlighting the top-performing schools and notable trends. The minister noted that out of the top 15 candidates, five were from Kenya High School.

Among the top 20 performing schools, Kenya High School ranked first with a mean score of 10.76, followed closely by Alliance Girls with a mean score of 10.65. Kapsabet Boys, which produced the best candidate, came in at number 12 with a mean score of 10.60.

Magoha also announced that 287 individuals had their results cancelled, 211 had unauthorized materials, including writing on white shirts, and 45 mobile phones were confiscated. The CS emphasized that all candidates have potential to succeed in life and encouraged them to check their results by sending their KCSE index number via the SMS number 20076.

According to Dr. Mercy Karogo, the acting chief executive officer of the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec), a total of 747,161 candidates sat for the examinations at 10,565 centres across the country. Some 752,891 candidates registered for the KCSE exam but 5,730 of them missed the tests.

Magoha also highlighted that Turkana county had the highest number of overage candidates, while Bungoma had the highest number of underage candidates. Those who scored C+ and above were just over 143,000.

Magoha's message of hope to all candidates who sat the 2020 KCSE exam was clear: 'We believe that there is no insignificant child and we must not leave any learner behind,' he said. 'All candidates have a place in our education story.'
