Bishop Joseph Muchai of Anglican Church of Kenya's Nakuru Diocese contracted Covid-19 on March 24, 2021, and was admitted to Nakuru Specialist Hospital for a week.
Despite initial panic, Bishop Muchai and his wife Mary Muchai, a Lay Canon, survived the ordeal, crediting God for their quick recovery.
"I panicked when I tested positive for Covid-19, I asked myself many questions including where I had contracted the virus," Bishop Muchai said in an interview with Nation.Africa.
He expressed shock at the number of Covid-19 patients who died in the hospital, feeling abandoned by people who had been close to him.
"Some of the so-called friends have never called me even after I was discharged from hospital," he said.
However, Bishop Muchai was grateful to those who stood by him, including Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, who called him daily to check on his recovery.
He appealed to the government to invest more in the health sector and urged Kenyans to observe Ministry of Health protocols to keep Covid-19 at bay.
