Heavy rains pounded Nairobi overnight, causing widespread flooding and traffic congestion in the city.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, heavy downpours were expected in Nairobi throughout the week, with the worst of the weather forecast to hit on Saturday night.
Director of Meteorological Services Stella Aura warned Kenyans to be cautious while passing through moving water, saying 'It's going to rain heavy tonight. Everyone using the roads either as a driver or pedestrian is advised to observe extra caution. Avoid passing through moving waters. Keep safe.'
On Monday morning, motorists were forced to use only one lane on Mombasa Road, near Imara Daima estate, with access to several offices completely cut-off by the raging waters.
Residents took to social media to express their frustration, with some blaming the situation on the construction of the expressway and others pointing to poor drainage in the area.
Mark Lukale described the road from Garden estate to Windsor as 'a big river' and said that the road from Ruaka to Ndenderu was a 'nightmare', adding that 'these roads need a 4×4. Balaa tupu na hii mvua.'
