Published on May 10, 2021, the weekly Mombasa Tea Auction held on May 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2021, offered a substantial 12.4 million kilograms of tea for sale.
This marked an increase from the 12.2 million kilograms offered during the same period in the previous year and the 12 million kilograms offered in the previous sale.
Despite the large quantity of tea available, 10.9 million kilograms were sold, mirroring the sales figures from the same period in the previous year and the previous sale.
However, the tea auction recorded a notable decrease in prices, with a kilogram selling at an average price of $1.82, compared to $1.85 during the previous sale held on April 26th, 27th, and 28th, 2021, and $1.95 for the same period in the previous year.
