On May 9, 2021, a security operation in Kisumu, Kenya, led to the detention of five Pakistani nationals, sparking a probe into their presence in the country.

According to County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu, two of the individuals were arrested along the Kisumu-Kakamega road, while the other three were picked up along the Kisumu-Nairobi road at Ahero centre.

The operation, carried out by the anti-terror unit in conjunction with a security multi-agency, was prompted by intelligence reports.

‘I can confirm that yes, we arrested two Pakistani nationals at about 1100hrs along Kisumu – Kakamega Road near Mamboleo roundabout following our intelligence reports,’ Anampiu said.

He added that the operation also led to the arrest of three more individuals, totaling five, along the Kisumu-Ahero Road.

The security operation caused a traffic snarl-up along the busy road, which lasted for several hours.

County Police Commander Anampiu appealed to locals to volunteer information to the police to help beef up security.

‘My humble request to you all is that since security starts with us all, give us as much information as possible,’ he said.
