Published on May 10, 2021, a grant worth Sh87 million was allocated to the Nyamira County Government for the financial year 2018/2019 under the Devolution Support Programme to boost the agriculture sector.

However, two years down the line, the county government has failed to utilize the funds, leaving farmers in the dark and suffering.

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have now demanded answers from the Executive regarding the funds that had been allocated to support farmers.

County Assembly Speaker Moffat Teya sought an explanation from the Executive through the Assembly's Finance Committee, stating that the executive in charge of Finance and Planning was required to appear before the committee on Finance to give details on the matter within 14 days.

Magombo MCA Richard Onyinkwa echoed the sentiments, saying that the executive should explain why the money had not been put to use and demanded that the Finance department ensures the money was utilized.

“We will be keen to know the real purpose that the money is meant to serve. Let the money be put to use before the end of this financial year,” he said.

The MCAs are now keen to know the real purpose of the grant and want the money to be utilized before the end of the financial year.
