On April 30, 2021, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amb. Amina Mohamed visited Kasarani Stadium, where she was accompanied by Engineer John Ruga and 2021 Nairobi World Under-20 Chief Executive Officer Mike Rabar.

According to Rabar, the country has been given an extra eight months to prepare for the event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has given the Local Organising Committee ample time to put everything in place.

‘Covid-19 has given us an extra eight months to put together an event of this magnitude. We have enough time to ensure everything is in the right position, safe and secure event for the athletes,’ said Rabar.

As part of the preparations, bubbles will be used to minimize contact between athletes, media, and officials, similar to the Magical Kenya Open and Savannah Classic tournaments.

‘We are going to use a lot of bubbles to control movements of media, athletes, officials,’ said Rabar.

The athletes' village will be located at Kenyatta University, which will accommodate all athletes during the championships. The university has a capacity to hold more than 15,000 students a day.

‘Warm up and competition areas have been zoned. There will be a clear flow of how athletes will move from the village into the stadium, competition area then back to the village,’ Rabar explains.

Kenya has been in constant contact with World Athletics, gauging preparedness and finding the best ways to deliver a perfect event. The event will be streamed live on TV and digital platforms.
