Female Police Boss Denies Bigamy Allegations ¶
On May 9, 2021, a senior female police officer, Anne Wanjiru Waiganjo, was accused of being married to two junior officers, sparking bigamy allegations.
Waiganjo, a chief inspector attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), was featured in a local publication with claims that she was married to an inspector in the police force, David Murimi, and another junior officer in the prisons service, David Mbitu Muchi.
However, a source privy to the matter explained that contrary to the reports, Waiganjo's first marriage to David Murimi was dissolved by a court of law in 2020.
According to the source, Waiganjo was subjected to verbal and physical abuse during the marriage and was hospitalized several times due to extensive injuries.
After filing for divorce, Waiganjo experienced unending threats of violence and was forced to protect the image of the National Police Service by not reporting the assault case at Kikuyu police station.
It has also emerged that after she got into the marriage, Waiganjo had a child with another woman, who was not her husband, and was forced to take care of the child without knowing the situation.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i had earlier disclosed that the police standing orders would be revised to bar senior police officers from engaging in romantic relations with their junior colleagues.
