On Saturday, May 8, 2021, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru met with officials from the Kikuyu Council of Elders and Njuri Ncheke in Sagana. The meeting aimed to address the growing concern of men being battered by their spouses in Kirinyaga County.

Njuri Ncheke's Secretary-General of Operations, Josephat Murangiri, emphasized that it is a taboo for women to batter their husbands. He urged men to take responsibility for their families and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

The Kikuyu Council of Elders, led by Chairperson David Githaka, plans to meet with a group of Kirinyaga men who have filed complaints of being battered by their spouses. The council aims to counsel the victims and their partners against domestic violence and raise awareness against drug and substance abuse.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru welcomed the initiative, stating that it would help families in the region adopt peaceful and responsible living.
