Kenya's Covid-19 positivity rate has dropped significantly in the past 24 hours, from 12.4% to 7.4%. This decrease is a welcome relief in the ongoing fight against the pandemic.
According to a statement released by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday, May 9, 316 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 out of a sample size of 4,251 tested in the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 308 are Kenyans, while 8 are foreigners. The age range of the new cases is diverse, with the youngest being a four-month-old infant and the oldest being 89 years old.
As of today, the total number of confirmed positive cases stands at 163,554, with cumulative tests conducted reaching 1,719,289.
Unfortunately, 12 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 2,895. One of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, while the remaining 11 occurred on diverse dates within the last month.
On a positive note, 62 patients have recovered from the disease, with 39 recovering from various health facilities countrywide and 23 recovering from home-based and isolation care.
With these recoveries, the total number of recoveries now stands at 111,191, of which 80,558 are from Home Based Care and Isolation, while 30,633 are from various health facilities.
As the vaccination drive continues, a total of 916,800 persons have so far been vaccinated against the Covid-19 disease countrywide. This includes 534,836 individuals aged 58 years and above, as well as health workers, teachers, and security officers.
