On May 9, 2021, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai took swift action in response to a disturbing video that had gone viral, featuring a female police officer from the Traffic Department in Mombasa County.
The officer, who had previously complained against a merchant, was subjected to an inquiry by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers, resulting in a departmental action.
However, the officer's situation took a turn for the worse, with the officer 'begging' the IG to let her resign peacefully in the video.
"Please allow me to resign from the Police Force," the officer cried, saying she had been frustrated a lot.
She also accused the office of Internal Affairs of not addressing their plight and urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to disband it, citing corruption among its officers.
Responding to the video, IG Mutyambai directed the Gender and Children Directorate to independently investigate the matter and submit a report within seven days.
