On Saturday, May 9, 2021, Deputy President William Ruto's Karen home in Nairobi played host to a unique celebration - his daughter's engagement party. The event, known as the Koito, marked the beginning of dowry negotiations between Ruto's family and those of his Nigerian in-laws.
As the ceremony progressed, Ruto took to the DJ booth, where he was guided by DJ Protege. In a 19-second video posted by Communication and Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi, the Deputy President is seen controlling the knobs on the audio mixer as a Kalenjin song plays in the background.
June, Ruto's eldest daughter, is set to wed a Nigerian lawyer and scholar, Dr. Alexander Ezenagu, who specializes in taxation and illicit financial flows out of developing countries. The couple's union has been in the works for some time, with Ezenagu having met with Ruto on May 8, 2021, as seen in the photo below.
It's worth noting that Ruto has previously expressed interest in supporting artists, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic. In April 2021, he met with Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones and other artists to discuss the impact of the pandemic on the entertainment and creative industry.
