File Photo: Residents of Baringo's Tiaty sub-county are facing a dire situation as the ongoing security operation to flush out bandits may disrupt the reopening of schools next week.
Speaking to journalists outside the Baringo County Assembly premises in Kabarnet town on Saturday, Silale Ward Member of County Assembly, Nelson Lotela expressed his concerns about the schools' reopening in the area.
Lotela stated, 'I am afraid that schools may not resume since residents have fled their homes and there is a lack of food in the area. I call on the government to open up roadblocks so as to allow food to reach the area.'
He further emphasized that the ongoing attacks have fueled suffering among residents, with the majority of those affected being women, the elderly, and young children.
Lotela noted that school-going children will be taking a risk going to schools since they have to be escorted by security officers, failure to which they might be killed.
He added, 'The government should continue with the operation, but despite deploying heavy security contingent, the bandits are still going on with their mission and thereby making the area volatile, life is unbearable for the residents.'
