On May 7, police in Gem, Siaya County questioned a male nurse over allegations of defiling a 17-year-old Form Two student.
However, the nurse was released due to insufficient evidence, despite being accused of committing the offence on May 2.
According to sources, the nurse was reportedly having an affair with the minor.
Charles Chacha, the Gem sub-county police boss, confirmed that investigations have been launched and police are working to gather evidence to build a case against the nurse.
Chacha stated that the nurse denied any knowledge of the girl, claiming he was in a relationship with an older lady.
"We arrested, questioned the nurse and released him. We have taken the minor to two different health facilities in Siaya and Gem for medical reports, but they found nothing tangible to aid our investigations," Chacha said.
Chacha also expressed concern over parents opting for out-of-court settlements, which he believes hinders justice for the victims.
