On May 8, 2021, Baringo County Assembly Majority Chief Whip Reuben Chepsongol addressed journalists at the county assembly grounds, reacting to the passing of the Constitutional Amendment Bill by the national assembly.

Despite the bill's passage, Chepsongol maintained that Deputy President William Ruto has not publicly opposed the bill, and therefore, those celebrating the DP's loss of support from elected and nominated leaders across the country will be in for a rude shock.

Chepsongol, a vocal Bartabwa Ward representative, stated that Dr. Ruto is very popular and that they will fully support his 2022 presidential bid.

“Everyone has a role to play, the leaders did their part and voted, either YES or NO for BBI endorsement but for us we are focused on the 2022 polls,” Chepsongol stated.

Chepsongol claimed that BBI is not popular amongst Baringo residents, as it is only three MPs from the area who did not make their voice to be heard when it was being debated in parliament.

He called on the county women representative Gladwell Cheruiyot, legislators Joshua Kandie of Baringo Central and his Tiaty counterpart William Kamket to join fellow politicians from Rift Valley in solidifying their support to deputy president.

Chepsongol further suggested that if possible the three leaders should ditch their parties to join UDA which he claimed is gaining popularity amongst the residents of Baringo.
