The Ministry of Lands and Planning has announced a mass verification of title deeds in Nairobi's Thome area, following reports of fraudulent land transactions.

The exercise, which will commence on May 24, 2021, and run until June 2021, aims to establish the validity of records showing ownership of plots in the area.

According to a notice by the Lands CS, all plot owners in the area are requested to prepare and drop copies of their proof of ownership documents, including title deeds, certified copies of grants issued by the court for succession matters, transfer documents, sale agreements, share certificates, and receipts for payment from Thome farmers.

Additionally, plot owners are required to present a copy of their National ID and KRA Pin for individuals or certified copies of certificate registration and KRA Pin for companies/institutions.

The government has warned that presenting fake or forged documents will lead to arrest and prosecution.

The mass verification exercise is part of the government's efforts to digitize land parcels in Nairobi, which aims to map out all plots in the city and their ownership.

As part of this initiative, the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS), dubbed 'Ardhisasa', was launched in April 2021 by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The system aims to speed up land transactions and enable citizens to access all services offered at the Lands ministry through a digital platform.
