Cryptocurrency: Edward Snowden’s thoughts on Bitcoin angers maximalists

Edward Snowden, a renowned whistleblower, recently spoke at the 2021 Ethereal Virtual Summit powered by Decrypt, where he shared his thoughts on cryptocurrency, privacy coins, and Bitcoin's privacy issues.

During the 33-minute interview, Snowden expressed his concerns about Bitcoin's privacy problems, stating that Taproot does not fix the issue and may even make it worse. He also highlighted the importance of fungibility in cash and how Bitcoin's public ledger reduces its fungibility over time.

His comments did not go unnoticed, as Bitcoin Maximalist Alex Gladstein took to social media to express his disagreement. Gladstein wrote a scathing response, accusing Snowden of being misleading and intentionally deceptive in his summary of the talk.

Snowden responded to Gladstein's criticism, stating that the worst part of cryptocurrency transforming into dragon-level wealth is witnessing good people emotionally devolve into dragons themselves. He also emphasized the importance of addressing Bitcoin's privacy issues, citing the need for a more comprehensive solution.

Other experts, including Ari Paul and Matt Corallo, weighed in on the discussion, highlighting the complexity of improving Bitcoin's privacy and the need for incremental improvements.

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: Edward Snowden's thoughts on Bitcoin's privacy issues have sparked a heated discussion among cryptocurrency enthusiasts and experts.
