On the eve of schools reopening, the Ministry of Education has released Sh7.5 billion to secondary schools to aid in their preparation and adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

According to Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha, the funds will assist schools in putting in place measures to ensure the safety of learners and teachers.

Magoha emphasized the importance of adhering to the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 protocols, stating that the 35 marking centres countrywide should be fumigated before Monday to ensure a safe learning environment.

Grade Four learners, however, will remain at home until July 26th, 2021, when schools will open for the First Term of the 2021 Academic Calendar.

Magoha noted that Grade Four learners were part of the first batch of learners who reopened in the first case of the phased resumption of learning after the COVID-19 closure in October 2020.

Private schools have been warned of stern action if they recall Grade Four learners together with other groups expected to open on Monday.

Magoha emphasized that such schools must stop this plan and allow all public and private learning institutions to adhere to the stipulated calendar.
