On May 5, 2021, a tragic accident occurred on the Southern Bypass, claiming the life of a BMW X5 driver. The incident unfolded when the driver, identified as Mr Allan Ndung'u Ngugi, a Program Manager at Trade Mark East Africa, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a lorry ferrying goods.
According to eyewitnesses, the lorry and the BMW X5 were both in motion, heading towards Kikuyu town, approximately 18 kilometers from Nairobi's Central Business District. The driver of the SUV died instantly, and the vehicles were towed to Lang'ata Police Station.
Lang'ata OCPD, Benjamin Mwanthi, stated that the lorry driver was unaware of the impact, only realizing that the lorry had slowed down. However, he continued to accelerate, unaware of the severity of the collision.
Autopsy findings revealed that the driver suffered severe injuries, including broken ribs and limbs, and excessive bleeding. The police investigation suggested that the driver was likely speeding at the time of the accident.
Mr Ngugi, a senior program manager at Trade Mark East Africa, left behind a young family. His sister, Carolyne Wanjiku, confirmed that the details on his LinkedIn account were accurate, including his position and educational background.
The body was later moved to the Lee Funeral Home, where it was received by family and friends.
