Crime has become a major concern in Lucky Summer, with residents expressing worry over the increasing number of attacks and robberies in the area.
According to residents, these incidents often occur in broad daylight, with perpetrators seemingly unfazed by the presence of witnesses.
One resident, who was stabbed using a broken bottle, recounted his harrowing experience, saying it happened under the watchful eyes of the public, with no one bothering to help.
He chose not to report the incident to the police, citing a lack of faith in the system, as he believed no action would be taken.
“There is a day I was just in the estate and I was attacked by an unknown man, after asking him why he was attacking me, he immediately pulled out a broken bottle and stubbed me. All this happened while people were watching and no one dared to assist me. I did not report because no action will be taken because this estate is full of crime,” he narrated.
Another resident reported that her child's bicycle was stolen, despite the presence of a CCTV camera in their plot, which failed to capture the perpetrator.
Some residents attribute the rise in crime to a lack of employment opportunities in the community, with one resident stating, “People do not have work and money so they turn to criminal activities in search of money.”
Residents are now calling for action to be taken to reduce the insecurity in the area.
