On the path to reducing personal car ownership, Estonian transport and delivery company Bolt has launched a car-sharing service called Bolt Drive. The new service enables customers to rent a car for short periods straight from the Bolt app.
With an initial investment of 20 Million Euros, Bolt aims to expand Bolt Drive across Europe, starting with a pilot program in Estonia. This free-floating car-sharing service allows customers to see available vehicles on a map, book a car using the Bolt app, and start and finish rides anywhere within the city, as indicated in the app.
One of the key benefits of Bolt Drive is that customers do not need to pay for parking or fuel. This service is part of Bolt's mission to provide a better alternative to personal car ownership, reducing traffic, environmental emissions, and city space usage.
According to Markus Villig, CEO at Bolt, personal cars are the primary cause of problems in urban transport. He emphasized that Bolt's goal is to help people give up their personal cars by offering a more convenient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable option for every distance.
With Bolt Drive, customers will have access to a car at any time, from the same app they already use for scooters, e-bikes, and ride-hailing. This service covers the rest of the use cases, whether it's a trip to a shopping mall or a weekend getaway.
