After a year's absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Monaco Grand Prix is set to return on May 23 with a limited number of spectators.
According to the Principality's government, 7,500 tickets have been sold, with 4,000 of those tickets already purchased. This represents one in three places in the street circuit to allow for social distancing.
Only 3,000 spectators will be allowed for the Friday practice session.
While there will be no restrictions on the origin of spectators, those entering Monaco from outside will be required to show evidence of a negative PCR test. Staff will be trained to identify any falsified tests.
Residents, employees of the Principality, and Monegasques are exempt from testing.
Minister of State Pierre Dartout emphasized the importance of holding the event with minimal public participation and strict health measures in place.
"It is essential that it is held with both a minimum participation of the public and the highest sanitary conditions," he said.
The Monaco Grand Prix, first run in 1929, is the fifth event on this year's 23-race calendar.
