Kenya Records 345 New Covid-19 Cases, Positivity Rate Drops to 5.2%

Published on May 4, 2021, Kenya has recorded 345 new Covid-19 cases, with a positivity rate of 5.2% from a sample size of 6,686 tested in the last 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 339 are Kenyans, while 6 are foreigners. The cases comprise 195 males and 150 females, with the youngest being a two-year-old baby and the oldest being 94 years old.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that the total number of confirmed cases stands at 160,904, with cumulative tests so far at 1,688,106.

140 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, with 82 recovering from home-based care and 58 from various health facilities.

Unfortunately, 24 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, with 15 occurring on diverse dates within the last one month and 8 being late death reports from facility record audits.

As of now, cumulative fatalities stand at 2,805.

The positivity rate dropped from Monday's 8.3%.

There are currently 1,230 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,654 patients are on Home-Based Isolation and Care.

154 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 26 on ventilatory support and 101 on supplemental oxygen. 27 patients are on observation.

Another 117 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 109 in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also noted that a total of 894,076 persons have so far been vaccinated against the disease countrywide.

Of these, 275,453 are aged 58 years and above, while 158,772 are health workers, 139,221 are teachers, 75,169 are security officers, and 245,461 are others.
