On Tuesday, Speaker Justin Muturi made a landmark ruling on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020, stating that the National Assembly cannot further amend the bill.

According to the Speaker, Parliament can only debate and submit the public-initiated bill to the President in its current form, as stipulated by the Constitution.

Speaker Muturi cautioned that any attempts to override the bill's intended purpose would be unconstitutional, potentially undermining the role of Parliament in such situations.

However, the Speaker clarified that he would use his parliamentary privilege to correct typographical and cross-referencing errors in the document before submitting it to the President.

Speaker Muturi also dismissed claims that the document was not properly before the House, maintaining that all laid-down processes were followed.
