On 14 April 2021, a witness in a case involving former rugby players Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama allegedly received threats, sparking a conspiracy to commit murder charge against Olaba.

Olaba, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, denied the charges and was remanded until Monday next week pending a ruling on bail cancellation in a gang-rape case.

Andayi explained that the application to deny Olaba bail was before another court, and it was best for that court to give a ruling to avoid duplication.

Prosecutors led by Everline Onunga and Angela Fuchaka had opposed Olaba's release on bail, citing security concerns for the witness.

They alleged that Olaba was out to kill the witness to prevent them from testifying in court.

Olaba and Wanyama are currently out on a cash bail of Sh.300,000 in a separate case, but prosecutors have asked for the bail to be cancelled due to the new charges.

A ruling on the application will be made on May 10.
