Kenya Records 345 New Covid-19 Cases, 24 Succumb

On May 4, 2021, Kenya recorded 345 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 6,686 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the positivity rate to 5.2%.

Of the new cases, 339 are Kenyans, while 6 are foreigners. The youngest case is a two-year-old baby, while the oldest is 94 years old.

Health Cabinet Secretary Senator Mutahi Kagwe noted in a statement that the total confirmed positive cases are now 160,904, and cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,688,106.

The distribution of positive cases by age is as follows: 0-9 years (10), 10-19 years (17), 20-29 years (53), 30-39 years (86), 40-49 years (59), 50-59 years (59), and 60 years and above (61).

County-wise distribution shows that Nairobi has 75 cases, Uasin Gishu has 49 cases, Mombasa has 35 cases, and Kisumu has 29 cases.

Health facilities countrywide have admitted 1,230 patients, while 6,654 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. A total of 154 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 26 on ventilatory support and 101 on supplemental oxygen.

Additionally, 117 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 109 in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

As of May 4, 2021, a total of 894,076 persons have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.
