On May 4, 2021, AS Roma announced that Jose Mourinho would take charge of the team from next season, following the departure of head coach Paulo Fonseca at the end of the season.
Mourinho, a 'great champion' and 'Special One,' will sign a three-year contract with the Giallorossi, which runs until the summer of 2024.
According to the club, Mourinho will provide 'tremendous leadership and experience' to their ambitious project, aiming to build a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the club.
With a coaching career spanning over two decades, Mourinho has won 25 major trophies, including three Premier League titles with Chelsea (2005, 2006, and 2015), and league titles in Italy, Spain, and Portugal with Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Porto respectively.
He is among only three managers to have won the UEFA Champions League with two different clubs, an achievement he repeated in the Europa League.
On Twitter, AS Roma announced, 'The club are delighted to announce an agreement has been reached with Jose Mourinho for him to become our new head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season.'
